End-of-Life Care and Euthanasia

Many owners find it difficult to determine the right time to say good-bye to their beloved pet.

When the time has finally arrived, there are some decisions that need to be made.

You may wish to consider:

  • Do you want your companion euthanized at home or in the veterinary clinic? We will travel to do house calls.
  • Shamrock offers cremation services through Vancouver Island Animal Crematorium here in the Comox Valley. We have found them to be exceptionally sensitive and respectful of your pet's remains. Your companion will be cremated, and you will have the option of having the ashes returned to you. Unfortunately, blankets, toys, leashes, or collars cannot go to the crematorium.
  • Would you like to exit through the back door rather than the front office if your pet is euthanized in our clinic?
  • During favorable weather conditions, you may choose to say good-bye to your pet on our quiet back lawn.
  • Please understand that during evenings, Saturdays, and emergency hours we may not be able to have a veterinarian available to accommodate your wish for a housecall euthanasia.
  • Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Each euthanasia is different as every family and pet has unique desires or needs.
