About Joan: Joan founded Shamrock Veterinary Clinic in 1995. Her time is divided between her career and her 2 sons. Joan's interests include music, attending theatrical events, books, virtually any outdoor activity, and fiddling (or trying to!)


Dr. Saskia VandenBosch
Veterinarian

Training: 1996 Graduate of Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon, SK

About Saskia: Saskia has two dogs named Gus and R.J. Since moving to the Comox Valley in 1997 she has fallen in love with the area and spends her free time in the great outdoors.


Dr. Pam Wood
Feline Veterinarian

Training: 1988 Graduate of Western College of Veterinary Medicine

About Pam: Pam spends time cuddling with cats, walking, hiking, biking with her family, stopping to smell the roses and enjoy the beauty of nature. Pam has: four cats named Brandy, Sluggo, Zipper, and Nimbus; a dog named Tari; and four ducks named Pepper, Miss Wigglesworth, Waddles, and Daphne.


Dr. Zita Doeschner
Veterinarian

Training: Graduated from University of Veterinary Medicine of Hannover, Germany in 2001 and received her Certificate of Qualification from the CVMA in 2004.

About Zita: Zita and her family moved to the Valley from the Yukon in 2005, and is the busy mom of a young son and daughter.

Zita's pets are Luna, a sled dog shepherd  cross, and Ralphie, the 'Klondike kitty' Her hobbies include exploring trails with her son and Luna, photography, yoga, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, and basically anything the outdoors has to offer no matter what time of year.


Dr. Lynn Slaby
Veterinarian

Training: 1997 Graduate of Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon, SK

About Lynn: Lynn works part time and is owned by 3 dogs and 2 cats. She is an outdoor enthusiast and a soccer fanatic who loves spending time with her husband and young son.


Cris
Registered Animal Health Technologist

Training: 1994 Animal Health Technology - University College of the Cariboo, Kamloops, BC

About Cris: Cris has 2 cats, Kava and Dodge, 4 dogs, Sam, Dash, Sprocket and Cai. And, yes, she has a tendency to rescue any dog that looks potentially lost! Hiking, camping, canoeing, gardening and yard work occupy her free time especially when she can share these activities with her canine companions! All of her own pets have been acquired through the clinic in some way.

Training: 1978 Animal Health Technology - Olds College, Alberta

About Chris: Chris has a Border Collie, Keno, and two cats, KC and Kasper. She enjoys spending time with her pets, family and friends. Hiking, biking and canoeing all keep her very active.


Alana
Dental Technician Locum

Training: 1976-1978 Animal Health Technology - Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts & Science, Saskatoon, SK

About Alana: Alana is a Registered Animal Health Technologist with 25 years experience. She is currently self-employed working as a dental locum. Other employment includes teaching at Malaspina University-College and working as a keeper at the Mount Washington Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Centre. Alana lives with Bella, a Black Lab, and Pippin, a calico cat with an attitude! She enjoys a plentitude of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, sailing, kayaking, bicycling and skiing


Margaret
AHT in Training

Training: Currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technology Distance Education Program with Purdue University and learning the clinical aspects of the training from Shamrock.

About Margaret: Margaret is the proud mother of five wonderful sons including two sets of twins! Margaret loves to spend her free time walking, doing yoga, gardening, and reading. Margarent has a beautiful Golden Retriever named Gracie.


Kristina
Registered Animal Health Technologist

Training: 2001 Animal Health Technology - UCC

About Kristina: Kristina enjoys most outdoor activities especially hiking, camping, snowshoeing, skiing, spending time on the water, and walking her dog. She also loves to travel to different parts of the world, reading, board games, and movies. Kristina has one dog, Tucker, and 3 cats, Jasper, Annabelle, and Matilda.

Kristina has been involved with the Canadian Animal Assistance Team and has travelled to New Orleans to assist after Hurricane Katrina and the Northwest Territories to participate in a spay and neuter program.


Sylvia
Tech Assistant

Training: Post Graduate Business Education Course, Walter Murray Collegiate, Saskatoon, SK

About Sylvia: Sylvia entered the veterinary field as the receptionist/vet assistant at The Sooke Veterinary Hospital. Before joining us at Shamrock, Sylvia was receptionist/veterinary assistant at the Comox Cat Clinic. She joined Shamrock in May 2005.

Sylvia enjoys leisurely walks, gardening, and playing badminton with her kids. She has one cat, a brown tabby named "Spyro".


Sue
Receptionist

Training: 4-year Business & Commerce Course - Belleville, ON
Receptionist at various places all around the world for the past 30 years.

About Sue: Sue is mother to a cat named Chi Chi. Travelling is her passion and her face has been seen in many parts of the world. She enjoys walks, the beach, camping, making wine and meeting new people. Sue seems to know everyone in the Comox Valley! Maybe she knows you?

About Kellie: Kellie came to Shamrock in 2004. She enjoys reading and running and spending time with her daughter.


Pam
Receptionist

Training: Graduated from North Island College. 

About Pam:  Pam joined the team in 2007. Pam is the proud mother of 2 very busy boys. If that’s not enough to keep her busy, Pam also raises, trains and trials Australian Shepherds. In her ‘spare’ time, she runs a farm with various critters, enjoys gardening and horseback riding.

Training: B.A., University of Victoria

Christy loves travelling anywhere, and is always up for an adventure.  During her free time, she hunts treasure at the beach with her daughter, as well as rides horseback, skis, hikes, and gardens.  Christy shares her home with 2 horses, Benny and Flick, 2 dogs, Brodie and Lucky Lu, and Simba the cat.


Louise
Cleaner

About Louise: Louise came to Shamrock in 2004. Her hobbies include sewing and crafts. Louise has a white and tan flop eared rabbit named Cliff. It is the only pet that her daughter hasn't been allergic to!


Lulu

Lulu is the gorgeous panther you'll often find sprawled across our reception area. Her goal in life is to be adored and to spread black hair everywhere. She came to stay "temporarily" with us many years ago.


Trouble

Her name says it all! And we actually went to the SPCA to adopt her. What were we thinking? If you ever leave a pet carrier open in our clinic, you can be guaranteed Trouble will be in it before you leave.
