Dr. Joan Gillies is certified in rehabilitation medicine. Veterinary Rehabilitation Medicine is the animal version of human physiotherapy. It can be valuable in any musculoskeletal condition causing weakness, pain, decreased range of motion, loss of coordination, decreased endurance, or difficulty with normal daily activity.
Who can benefit:
- Senior (Dog) Citizens
- Agility Dogs
- Overweight Pets
- Dogs and cats who suffered partial to full paralysis of their limbs
- Dogs with cruciate ligament disease for whom surgery is not an option
- Post-surgical treatment after various orthopedic surgeries
Only veterinarians are allowed to make a diagnosis of a certain musculoskeletal problem in animals. Registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) will often work with clients on a rehab program under the guidance of the veterinarian.
